I don' think anyone really knows. There are some who think there is a link btween zinfandel and an Austrian grape called Zierfandler that makes light spicy, fruit forward wines and also some noble rot and dessert wines. Two completeley dfferent grapes. I tried a Sonoma, Russian River Valley zin a couple days ago that cost much much more that it was worth and I will be talking about soon on this blog and won't be pretty.

Where the hell does the name zinfandel come from anyway? Who made this shit up? I just came from California and it's a bunch of hyped up garbage. I mean, can anyone name a good cali wine that's actually good for the cost? I'd love that. When Spain and Italy were making crappy wines one paid low prices - like $5 a bottle. Why should I spend $40 for a junky cali wine when I can get an amazing tempranillo? Help.
