Feels like I just went thru your whole experience as well. I live in Californina but come to NYC about once a year. This last September we ate at BLT Steak on e night (sister restaurant to BLT Fish). Really good food and great ambiance. We had one of my absolute favorites that night, the 2002 Merus, Napa Valley. A power house of a wine. It taught me so much about the history of CA wine, and made me see many things in a new light. Reading the part where you realized who you were sitting next to, I literally got goosebumps! Yes it's a long post, but hey - these experiences are why we are all in the business. Gives us something to write home about, doesn't it? I have found that they have fallen slightly with some of their lesser labels, but certainly the Cask 23 is solid. We did a vertical a while back and it was beautiful stuff. But, alot of wine is the experience surrounding it and it sounds like it meant alot to you and you had a great time and I'm sure the wine added to it as much as the experience added to the wine.
